The Overland Expo – Asheville
Location: Biltmore Estate
This past weekend we went to the Biltmore Estate to check out what was happening at the Overland Expo! It’s a chance for people to, as the Overland Expo’s motto explains: “Get outfitted, get trained, get inspired – get going!”
It was our second time to the event and we had an absolute blast. The expo is a chance for adventure enthusiasts to get together and learn from hundreds of classes, check out new films related to overlanding, participate in roundtable discussions, see demonstrations of new products and visit over 300 vendors in the adventure travel industry. There was something for everyone there this weekend.
Our favorites of course was the VW vans, of which there were several! We also had a chance to check out this sweet 1988 Mitsubishi Delica, pictured above, that was owned by Sam Salwei and Raquel Hernández. They both work for YogaSlackers and Sam is actually a co-founder. They shared with us that they’ve been living the road live for several years, Sam for the last 10 and Raquel for the last 5! It was inspiring to say the least and really great to see one of my favorite vehicles up close and in-person.
If you get the chance to make it out to an Overland Expo, we highly recommend it. There are two opportunities a year for you to get to one. One in Flagstaff, Arizona that is usually in late spring and the one in Asheville!
Have you been to an Overland Expo? If so, what’d you think?!
I really need to get out Overland Expo with in the next year or so. We’re fascinated by overlanding and have been exploring the ins and outs. We’ve got a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that we are paycheck to paycheck outfitting with everything we will need. I look forward to seeing where your blog goes next.
Oh I hope you can make it! We saw some really great Jeeps this year. What kinds of things are you doing to outfit it?
