One of my favorite places in the world is Yosemite National Park. Just about this time last year I was there with the National Park Foundation and their sponsors, REI, Aramark, Columbia Sportswear and Subaru as part of the #FindYourPark Expedition. It was awesome to revisit and to do it with my wife, Caroline.
The first night we arrived we ended up sleeping in a secret spot just outside the National Park.
It was a super quiet spot and we could see so many stars, tons more than we can in Asheville due to the lack of light pollution. We’re already really looking forward to going back there.
We spent the whole next day exploring, starting with a sunrise at Tunnel View! There were a ton of photographers there and while we never actually got a true sunrise, the light was soft and threw the most beautiful blue tones into the valley and off the rock.
We wandered around the rest of the park for several hours, even scoring a peek at Glacier Point. Apparently it’s often closed up there that time of year due to snow but we got lucky. By the time sunset came, we were back down in the valley and looking for a particular spot in the meadow. I had a difficult time putting us on it and at one point I thought we might just miss the entire sunset. We finally just parked near the store in Yosemite Village and ran alongside the river, at one point even splitting up. We got super lucky though and both of us found really sweet spots to take photos from, scoring the most gorgeous light on Half Dome. This is what we saw:
To cap off an already perfect day we were even lucky enough to score a campsite in the Upper Pines campground which is in Yosemite Valley. As always, we had to leave way too soon but were super thankful for the time we had there.
Have you been to Yosemite? What’s your favorite part? Where should we head next time for sunset?
