I’ve had the same camera bag for almost seven years now but finally decided it was time to upgrade. After LOTS of research on the internet, I finally chose one. In this post you’ll learn about our thoughts on review the Lowepro Tahoe BP 150 camera bag.

The basics of the Lowepro Tahoe BP 150

First off, the basics. The dimensions of this bag are:

10W x 5D x 14.2H in
25.5 x 12.8 x 36 cm

It comes in red, black and blue.

This pack has a main compartment and two smaller compartments as well as two side pockets.

Why We Chose this Camera Bag

For starters, we’ve both had Lowepro camera bags that we’ve been really happy with. I’ve had my old one, the Lowepro Flipside 300, for roughly seven years and it’s been a great bag. It is durable and stood up to the test of time. Caroline has been using the Lowepro Flipside 500 for the last two years. She’s also had a great experience with hers. The main reason I decided to upgrade was so my bag would show up better in photos. With the kinds of photos we’re shooting, we almost always need something bright in our photos. To work around this, I almost always end up carrying a layer, even when it’s hot out. After two years of this I finally caved and got a bag that means I can leave the coat at home.

The Interior of the Lowepro Tahoe BP 150 Camera Bag

The interior of this camera bag is big enough to hold a camera body with a lens on it. That’s pretty standard as far as most camera bags go but keep in mind it has room to expand for those of you who often shoot with longer lenses than what I have on the camera in this photo which is a 16mm lens. I also have enough room in the bag to store a couple of other lenses like the 35mm that I have in the lower right hand pocket. I’ve also got two rain shields in the bag, one that goes over the camera bag and one that goes over the camera itself.

Also on the inside of this Lowepro camera bag is a top pocket that’s great for storing money, business cards, credit cards and keys. It’s easy to get into without opening the bag all the way (helpful in bad weather) and it has a zipper for peace of mind that your valuables won’t fall out mid-shoot if you leave the bag open for easy access.

One things that you may or may not end up using is the little slit for memory cards on the back side of the flap. It’s marked by a small memory card icon. There isn’t a zipper and there isn’t much room but it’s still a cool feature. I’m way too paranoid to use this feature but I’m sure there are people out there who will love being able to keep their memory cards in one place without having to rifle through other pockets to find them.

Best travel camera bag on the market?

The second compartment can hold a tablet and several other accessories.

It’s possible that it just might be one of the best travel camera bags on the market. In addition to the spacious main compartment, this camera bag also has two additional pockets for storing gear. The largest of these other compartments has a slot for your a tablet as well as slots for a stylus and pencils, a smartphone, chargers, etc. The flap itself is fairly padded which we like since it just means more protection for our gear.

Three things we wish this camera bag had

There’s lots to love about this bag but there are three things which we wish we could improve and hope to see in a future version:

  1. We wish the Lowepro Tahoe BP 150 was waterproof. We would pay more for a bag that was waterproof.
  2. It’s a pain to unbuckle the clips on each side of the main compartment. Often times we just leave them undone. I’ve considered snipping them off at the side and getting rid of them altogether but I’m concerned it’ll make it look really lame.
  3. We wish there was a specific tripod holder on this bag. You can fit a small tripod on then side of this bag and then fasten it in place with the above-mentioned clips but it’s not the best fit (or feel) for long hikes or treks.

If none of those three things sound like a deal breaker, this might just be the bag for you. Overall, we still think it’s one of the best travel camera bags on the market.
