Asheville, North Carolina has so much to offer as far as things to do, see, eat and of course, drink. Nicknamed “Beer City” (there’s even a festival that happens in late May), we are home to over 50 breweries and the number is increasing all the time. If you’re into craft brews, chances are you may have already visited Asheville and done a beer tour. We’ve got some of the major players in the industry here: Sierra Nevada and New Belgium but we also have some really cool smaller breweries. Come and see for yourself what we think are the best breweries in Asheville and let us know what you think!

Best Breweries in Asheville

• 12 Bones Brewing
  • Brought to you by the same people behind 12 Bones BBQ. They’ve got some super fun beers and they share a space with the restaurant so you can get a drink, hang out, and eat too. If you’re on the south side of town, this is your brewery.
• Burial Beer Co.
  • The beers are funky and creative and the can art is just as cool. The outdoor space is a lot of fun (there’s often live music and Salt and Smoke is right there in case you’re want to grab a bite to eat.)
• The Wedge Brewing Co.
  • This is one of our favorite places to hang out. The first location, the “old” Wedge has some fun outdoor seating and is next to Bull and Beggar (burger Mondays, anyone?). The new location at 5 Foundy has more indoor seating and lots of street art/murals nearby. Our go-to beer? The Iron Rail IPA.
• Green Man Brewery
  • Green Man’s Trickster IPA is an easy-drinking good time. We recently took a tour there and got to see where they bottle and can all their beer. Currently, two locations are open: their Green Mansion in the south slope area and Dirty Jacks, also in south slope.
• Hillman Beer
  • Hillman now has two locations, one in Old Fort and one off Sweeten Creek road. If you’ve spent some time rummaging around the Antique Tobacco Barn, this is a good place to stop afterwards. We recommend trying Four Fat Baby, a Belgian Quad. It’s 10.1% ABV!
• Wicked Weed
  • Pernicious IPA. ’nuff said. Ok, and Appalachian, Coastal Love, and Freak of Nature are pretty darn awesome, too. You can almost always find one or two Wicked Weed selections in our fridge.
• Hi-Wire Brewing
  • They have two locations. The one on the south side of town is the perfect place to stop after a day at the Biltmore. They got clever with their Covid-19 seating and are offering outdoor igloos so you can sit with your pod and enjoy some beer.
• Highland Brewing Company
  • Highland Brewing Company has one of the best places to grab a beer outside. Their Meadow often has live music but even when there isn’t a show happening, you can still lounge around out there at one of the picnic tables, in a hammock, or at the volleyball court. Our go-to beer there is their Daycation IPA.
• One World Brewing
  • One World actually has two locations, one on Haywood Road in West Asheville and one downtown. They’ve got a ton of fun brews to try including a seltzer that’s really similar to White Claw in case you want something a little less beer-y.
• Oyster House Brewing Company
  • One of our friends is the head brewer here and we love the things he thinks up. Be sure to try the Oyster Stout and anything else that Philip is making.
• Pisgah Brewing Company
  • Come for a show, stay for the beer. It’s a little bit of a drive outside of Asheville but it’s more than worth it. Pisgah Pale Ale is one of our favorite brews around. Look for the green and white can in stores.
• Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company
  • Pizza and beer, what’s not to love?
• New Belgium Brewing
  • We went to their Tour De Fat a few years back and had a blast. There’s a nice deck off the back for drinking with views of the French Broad River as well as a bunch of lawn space. Most people probably know them from their Fat Tire Amber Ale but they also make a ton of other brews. Their lawn is pretty darn awesome too, especially if you’re traveling with kids and a dog.
